Woke up after a stormy night to a very wet campsite, same as when we arrived! We were prepared for high winds and potential tornados (the camp bathhouse was the safe space). Time to get out of Mississippi! What better day to head to Florida than Alan’s birthday!

Stopped in Gulf Shores, Alabama for some lunch and beach time.  The waves were coming in big on the sandy shores of Gulf State Park (an Alabama state park) and we got a quick beach walk before the park ranger told us there are no dogs allowed on the Beaches in Alabama.  Who knew?

Since our beach picnic idea was out, we grabbed some lunch at DeSoto’s Seafood Kitchen.

Great service and excellent food:  Crabcakes, fresh bread, flounder, shrimp, scallops, fried okra, and grouper finalized of with a big piece of Birthday Key Lime Pie. Happy Birthday, Alan!

After lunch we were back on the road heading to Florida.  On our way out of Gulf Shores, we drove through the FloraBama Coast.  The whole area seems like a great area for Snowbirds or retirees, and although it has mild temperatures compared to Minnesota, it is not a tropical destination. But I thought the area was pretty nice and interesting.
Wonder why they put stickers all over “Governor Ron Desantis” on the sign???
